A quick “Hello”

As a professional photographer and filmmaker based in the Shetland Islands – a small group of beautiful islands off the north-eastern tip of mainland Scotland – I’m regularly asked what could possibly be of interest in such a remote part of the world? Answer: plenty, and I invite you to take a further look…

Life on the harshly exposed islands of Shetland is most clearly characterised amongst those people who form the community here. Their ‘island spirit’ remains undimmed, despite Shetland’s position some 60 degrees north of the equator, and the associated restrictions in winter daylight hours this can bring.

As a ‘maker of still and moving images’ the light this far north can be your best friend or worst enemy – so the lighter months are often a boon – abundant with longer days, lingering shadows and a vivid palette of colours that bring to life dramatic seascapes, enchanting landscapes and raw, unfettered textures, like nowhere else I have experienced.

Commercially, much of my work has involved me being fully immersed in the nautical themes of the island which, in present times, encompasses everything from the local fisherman to Lerwick’s port activities and the daily working lives of the local people. I relish the opportunity of seeing life from different and creative perspectives and have aimed to capture these in a broader scope of images that are provided by the range of businesses that thrive here.

As a local press photographer for the Shetland Times I have captured and catalogued life here for many years now and slowly but surely I am gaining recognition, both nationally and internationally.

For businesses that have in mind a project or perhaps are mulling a few ideas that they would like to talk over – please call or email and we can get the ball rolling.

Thanks for taking the time to view my photography and content, it’s appreciated.
